Become a Volunteer
The contribution of time and effort from volunteers is a huge asset to patients, visitors, and staff at Johnston Health. Whether directly or indirectly involved with patients, the role of a volunteer is to help make the patient’s hospital encounter a positive experience. Volunteers are important to Johnston Health because they provide personal attention, assistance, and warmth to our patients and their families.
Volunteer Programs
We offer several volunteer programs to provide an opportunity to as many people as possible:
Adult Volunteer Program
Adult Volunteer Program is open to anyone over the age of 18 who wishes to volunteer at Johnston Health – Smithfield or Johnston Health – Clayton.
Hospice Volunteer Program
Hospice volunteers help care for terminally ill patients at the SECU Hospice House or through the home hospice program.
Chaplain Volunteer Program
Our Spiritual Care Services with the Chaplain Volunteer Program is staffed mainly by volunteer chaplains, and we are always looking for more local chaplains to join this program.
Junior Volunteer Program
The Junior Volunteer Program runs during the summer months, and is open to high school or college students who are at least 15 years of age.
Qualifications
Qualifications for volunteers vary according to the respective position. Attributes and qualifications essential for all volunteer assignments include stability, dependability, ability to relate to people, and ability to make a time commitment to the program.
