Junior Volunteer Program

Junior Volunteer Program Guidelines *

The Junior Volunteer program has a limited number of available positions. Placement decisions will be based upon a first come, first serve basis.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years old by August 1, 2013.

Volunteers must commit to at least 1, four-hour shift per week from June 17-August 9.

Volunteers must complete a mandatory orientation June 4th from 4-6pm. 

First-time program participants are required to attend a 30 minute informational session at one of the following times:

  • May 20th - 4:00pm or 4:30pm
  • May 21st - 4:00pm or 4:30pm

Volunteers must have all required immunization records and must be submitted by June 13th. Returning junior volunteers will not need to submit immunization records unless there have been changes from last year.

Volunteers must receive the required 2-step Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) prior to commencing their volunteer activities. The first step will be given at the informational session and the second will be given at orientation.

Applications, including essay questions and a letter of reference (not from a relative but from someone such as a teacher, school counselor, coach, mentor, etc.), must be submitted in their entirety by May 1, 2013.

Important Dates to Remember

May 1 - Applications due

May 20 - Informational sessions for first-time junior volunteers; TST's given at 4:00pm or 4:30pm.

May 21 - Informational sessions for first-time junior volunteers; TST's given at 5:00pm or 5:30pm.

May 23 - TSTs from May 20thread in Employee Health from 4-6pm

May 24 - TSTs from May 21st read in Employee Health from 4-6pm

June 4 - Orientation from 4-6pm; TSTs given

June 6 - TSTs from orientation read in employee health from 4-6pm.

June 13 - Immunization records due (the earlier the better in case you are missing something)

June 17 - Program begins

August 9 - Program ends

Applicant Checklist

Before submitting your application, please make sure you have included the following:

  • Completed application form
  • Answers to two essay questions
  • Letter of recommendation from someone who is not a relative (i.e. teacher, school counselor, coach, mentor, etc.)
  • Signed confidentiality agreement
  • Signed parental permission for immunization
