Ever wonder why some of us are more prone than others to get cancer? Are there things we can do to lessen our risk of getting cancer? Join our specialists from Duke Medicine for an enlightening presentation on the causes of cancer and the latest in genetics counseling. We'll also offer recommendations for screenings, preventive care and healthful living.

Kathleen Havlin, M.D., a breast cancer specialist, is in practice at Johnston Hematology and Oncology, an outpatient service of Johnston Health. She is an associate professor of clinical medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine. She has more than 20 years of experience in academic medicine.

Adam Buchanan, MS, MPH, CGC, is a board-certified cancer genetic counselor at Duke University Health System. He has counseled hundreds of patients who have had genetic testing for hereditary breast, ovarian or colorectal cancer. He is a master's trained health-behavior and health-education specialist, and has developed and evaluated several cancer screening interventions.
