Whether you have your test in Smithfield or Clayton, we offer the latest in diagnostic imaging services – MRI, CT, digital mammography, bone densitometry, and more – at convenient locations with extended hours. Pre-authorization is required for all exams from your insurance company.
Johnston Medical Center-Smithfield
Our main location is inside JMC-Smithfield. Here we offer a range of diagnostic procedures including imaging for emergency and trauma cases. If you have to undergo a surgical procedure, we’re equipped with the diagnostic technology that your surgeon needs.
Services offered include:
Computed Tomography (CT)
CT is a diagnostic procedure that uses special x-ray equipment to obtain cross-sectional pictures of your body. The CT computer displays your pictures as detailed images of organs, bones and other tissues.
Diagnostic Digital Mammography
A diagnostic mammogram is an x-ray of the breast that is used to check for breast cancer after a lump or other symptom has been found. A diagnostic mammogram also may be used to evaluate changes found during a screening mammogram. A diagnostic mammogram takes longer than a screening mammogram because it involves more x-rays in order to obtain views of the breast from several angles.
Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy is performed to make it possible to see your internal organs in motion with real-time images displayed on a video monitor.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
MRI is a test that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body. MRI also may be done to provide more information about a problem seen on an X-ray, ultrasound scan, or CT scan. Contrast material may be used during MRI to show abnormal tissue more clearly.
Ultrasound
An ultrasound test uses high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic visual images of your organs, tissues or blood flow. The sound waves are transmitted to the area of interest and the returning echoes recorded. This type of procedure is often referred to as a sonogram or ultrasound scan.

Johnston Medical Center-Clayton
You can now get a diagnostic test on the beautiful campus of Johnston Medical Center-Clayton. You’re busy enough with everyday life. Isn’t it nice to know that many of the health care services you need are now within minutes of where you live?
Johnston Medical Center-Clayton is easy to find on N.C. 42 West between the intersection of Amelia Church Road and the U.S. 70 Bypass of Clayton. Parking is plentiful, and a large metal canopy at the medical center’s entrance provides shelter for arriving patients and visitors
Diagnostic Tests
Our diagnostic imaging services include CT scans, digital mammography, X-rays, ultrasound and a wide-bore MRI to accommodate patients who may have a fear of confined spaces. We’ve included a separate, private area for women who are waiting for mammograms and ultrasounds.
