Johnston Health picks permanent CEO
Johnston Health has named Charles W. Elliott Jr. as chief executive officer.
Since Oct. 6, Elliott has been serving as interim CEO for the health care system. He was among four candidates vying for the permanent position.
Ralph Stewart, chairman of the Johnston Health Board of Commissioners, said Elliott emerged as the top candidate because of his knowledge of health care and his experience in running hospital systems the size of Johnston Health.
We’ve grown leaps and bounds with facilities and services, Stewart said. He will do an excellent job of leading us through the next step of our growth process.
The hospital board made the hiring decision late Thursday night at its monthly meeting.
Elliott, 57, a native of Atlanta, Ga., said he felt honored to have the board’s trust and support. After holding the interim position, he thinks he has a full grasp of the hospital’s challenges.
In all, Elliott has 33 years of hospital management experience.
Most recently, he was interim CEO for a surgical specialty hospital in Denver, Colo. Prior to that job, he was the CEO for six and a half years at Rowan Regional Medical Hospital Center in Salisbury, a 268-bed hospital. Elliott is an employee of Quorum Health Resources, Johnston Health’s management company. He met board members of Johnston Memorial Hospital when he was a group vice president for QHR from 1996 till ’02.
Elliott has a master’s degree in business administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and a master’s degree in health administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
He is a retired lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Army Reserve.
