What is Project Access?
Project Access exists to assist communities across the nation with establishing and sustaining coordinated systems of charity care. There are ten active Project Access programs in North Carolina, each unique to its own community.
Project Access of Johnston County is a physician-volunteer initiative that gives low-income, uninsured county residents access to comprehensive medical care. Through Project Access, physicians and community partners like Johnston Medical Center, donate medical services without receiving reimbursement or compensation.
Project Access is not health insurance. It is however, an innovative program designed to help community residents stabilize their health in a time of need when health insurance is not available.
Who can participate?
Low-income, uninsured residents up to age 64, who are not eligible for Medicaid, Medicare, Worker’s Compensation, VA benefits, or any other type of health insurance plan or coverage.
How do I qualify?
To qualify for enrollment in Project Access:
You must be a resident of Johnston County.
You must NOT qualify for ANY type of health insurance benefit.
Your total income must be at or below 175 percent of the 2007-08 Federal guidelines.
What kind of care can I receive?
Your care begins with a visit to a Family Care doctor who will refer you to Project Access should you qualify.
Project Access physicians and Johnston Medical Center will donate primary care, specialty services, including lab, x-ray, and other diagnostic testing and limited pharmacy coverage.
How will prescription drugs be covered?
Project Access will assist you in locating low-cost or free prescription drug programs.
How can I be of assistance to Project Access?
First, if you know of someone who might benefit from enrolling in Project Access, have them get in touch with a representative of the program to see if they qualify.
Also, volunteers are needed to help with fundraising campaigns and to assist with initial health screenings.
