Core named Johnston Health Ambassador
Carol Core of Smithfield was recently recognized as the Johnston Health Ambassador for January. She is secretary of the surgery department at Johnston Medical Center-Smithfield.
In her job, Core posts the surgeries and orders the instruments that doctors will need for their cases. She sends for patients when operating rooms are ready, and she calls patients at home to remind them of arrival times and pre-op instructions.
"That’s my favorite part of the job, talking to patients," she adds. "I love people."
The surgery department is one of the busiest areas of the hospital. It has five operating rooms and does between 15 and 20 cases every weekday.
During an awards presentation, CEO Chuck Elliott said Core was known for being loyal, dependable, honest and hard working. "She never speaks an unkind work, pays incredible attention to detail, and fits the true definition of a multi-tasker," he said.
Core has been a Johnston Health employee for six years.
Through its Ambassador program, Johnston Health recognizes and rewards employees who excel at meeting the health care system’s goals and objectives.
