Johnston Medical Center Wins National Improvement Award

December 13, 2011

Johnston Health has been named a 2011 Top Improver Award Winner by Press Ganey Associates, the company that measures patient satisfaction for hospitals across the country.

The award recognizes clients who have shown continuous improvement over two years. Johnston Health is one of 36 Press Ganey clients to receive this honor. It is one of 13 to receive it for improved clinical performance as measured by comparing quarterly composite scores for four measure sets representing 26 clinical measures.

“We are proud of Johnston Health,” says Robert Draughon, CEO of Press Ganey. “Johnston Health’s dedication to continuous improvement serves as a model for all.”

Chuck Elliott, president and CEO of Johnston Health, says quality of patient care is a priority shared by everyone in the health care system, including the hospital’s board of commissioners.

“We’ve made tremendous strides by implementing new protocols for patients coming to the emergency department with chest pain and pneumonia and for those needing surgery,” he says. “These improvements lead to better outcomes for patients.”

The health care system includes Johnston Medical Centers in Smithfield and Clayton, primary care practices in Clayton and Kenly, and an urgent care in Smithfield.

Press Ganey currently partners with more than 10,000 health care facilities—including more than 50 percent of all U.S. hospitals—to measure and improve the quality of care that providers deliver to patients.
