Therapy, color for patients

Raised flowerbeds and potted plants are adding color to the two courtyards of the Behavioral Health Department at Johnston Medical Center-Smithfield. At left, recreational therapist Erin Tracy recently led a beautification project that involved hospital patients and employees, and the staff of the Arboretum at Johnston Community College.

At center and right, horticulturist Minda Daughtry and arboretum director Lin Frye help a patient break up the roots of a flower before planting. The arboretum donated ferns, herbs and plant hangers for the project.
