Local OB/GYN first to reach early milestone

Dr. Siamak Marzbani of Johnston OB/GYN in Smithfield is now listed on the da Vinci Surgeon Locator, a website connecting consumers to physicians trained to use the minimally invasive robotic surgical system.
Physicians qualify for the listing after they have successfully completed 20 surgeries using the da Vinci system. Johnston Health bought the robotic system in April, 2011. After months of training, the surgical staff and specialists from local OB/GYN and urology practices began using the robotic system in September.
The da Vinci enables surgeons to perform the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions and with unmatched precision. Patients benefit by having less pain, less blood loss and less scarring. And they have shorter recovery times.
